Paddlers successful in Marlin Coast Challenge

Noosa Outrigger Canoe Club members Phil Benstead, Wendy and Des Mabbott ventured north recently to compete in the Marlin Coast Challenge.

The race event was hosted by the Port Douglas Outrigger Canoe Club, for both OC1 and OC2 paddlers. The course started from Ellis Beach and continued 38km north to Port Douglas. The distance was divided into four separate legs with paddlers pulling into beaches along the way for rest, recovery and refuelling. This also enabled those doing a relay to change team members.

Wendy and Phil teamed up with two other paddlers from Brisbane to compete in the Open mixed OC2 relay and were happy to achieve third place. Des also competed in the Open Men’s OC 1 iron race, also achieving a bronze position.
